“Tell me about your kids?” stemmed from my own contemplations of fatherhood. We seem to be living through a societal shift in what a dad is and what makes a good one. This has implications not only for the kids but also the dads. Since the caveman, Dads have always needed to provide but now Dads are expected to be so much more than just providers in a monetary and material sense. I wanted to explore this.

In the project, I ask other Dads to sit across a table from me and my camera while I ask them a series of questions about what being a Dad means to them, their hopes, dreams and fears for their children and as parents.

The actual act of making these pictures was unusually discreet given the setting. Minimal to no direction, no flash, my camera on a tripod with only a finger resting on the shutter. I wanted to be able to concentrate more on the conversation and the small, genuine expressions in their faces that conveys the true meaning behind their words.

One things soon became apparent, the look in their eyes when asked a very simple question was almost universal: “Tell me about your kids?”
